Customer: Copper Mine Mantos Blancos
Solution: ForeHB Homebase Station Automation and ForeFuel Automated Vehicle Identification (VIS)
Mantos Blancos Copper Mine, an open pit mine of copper sulphide and oxide ores, is located in the Antofagasta Region, 45 kilometers northwest of the capital of the region. Owned by the investment groups Audley Advisors Limited and Orion Mine Finance LLP, it produces approximately 50,000 tons of copper concentrate per year, with a concentrate grade that fluctuates between 29% and 35%, and an additional production of approximately 20,000 tons of high-quality cathodes.
As part of Orpak's ForeHB offering, the ForeHB Mining solution is designed to meet the operational and financial challenges of mining companies. The solution increases the service rates achieving higher levels of performance and efficiency in operations. It also allows advanced control of inventory and costs, and provides information on the mining company's fuel activities using VIS throughout its network of operations.
"Some years ago, our company came across the technical solutions offered by Orpak, which opened the possibility of solving a recurrent problem relating to the low level of fuel consumption control in our company. The expectations revolved around the implementation of a suitable system which would be durable, highly reliable and was already proved in other organizations. This would allow us to establish an advanced technological level of control, based on easily accessible reporting (also online), to make the operational control of our business and fuel consumption viable", stated Aline de Castro Passos, Chief Planning Maintenance.
"Indeed, the tools delivered by Orpak have met the expectations mentioned above. Currently, all critical fleets have installed control devices, the consumption is correctly assigned to the appropriate equipment and cost centers, and the system delivers the information required for a transparent and reliable consumption payment process that, ultimately, is the purpose of the chain of control."
"Considering that we have an excellent standard of control, we feel confident and are moving forward with the new control and reporting views, together with local Orpak personnel who have given us all the support during this new phase. Apart from improvements in development, we are also impressed with the integration of Orpak into our own ERP SAP, the improvement of the current reports and dashboards, and the solutions to detect and reduce fuel consumption", concluded Aline de Castro.
Orpak's ForeHB Solution for mining deployed at the pit consists of the Fuel Management System (FMS), SiteOmat Back Office (BOS) and Orpak Fleet Head Office (FHO) software, in addition to Vehicle Identification System (VIS) and specifically designed mobile fuel controllers to install on fuel tankers (OrTC), as well as durable database drivers that support hostile environments (OrIC).
